Raipur (Team GD News). The shortage of doctors in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country has become a big problem. According to the data given by the government in Parliament, 429 doctors have resigned from 20 AIIMS between 2022 and 2024.
The maximum 52 resignations were from Delhi AIIMS, which is the most prestigious institute in the country. After this comes Rishikesh and Raipur AIIMS. The main reason behind these resignations is the lack of better salary and facilities.
Doctors leaving AIIMS is a matter of concern. According to the data presented in Parliament, 429 doctors resigned from 20 AIIMS between 2022 and 2024.
The maximum 52 doctors left Delhi AIIMS, which is the most prestigious institute. After this, 38 doctors resigned from Rishikesh AIIMS, 35 from Raipur, 32 from Bilaspur and 30 from Mangalagiri. A doctor said that the salary in the private sector is four to ten times higher than AIIMS.
According to the data, one out of every three faculty posts is vacant in 20 AIIMS. Out of 1,306 sanctioned posts in Delhi AIIMS, 462 (35%) are vacant. 23% posts are vacant in Bhopal AIIMS and 31% in Bhubaneswar. The government has started a scheme to keep retired faculty on contract and visiting faculty, but doctors believe that this is not a permanent solution to the problem. There are many reasons behind the shortage of doctors. Rae Bareli AIIMS does not have adequate housing for the employees.
There is a rural area near the campus, which causes connectivity problems. House Rent Allowance (HRA) is also very low because Rae Bareli falls in Tier 3 city. Besides, because of the 9 acre disputed land, the boundary wall of the campus could not be built, causing security issues.
