Chhattisgarh beat Goa, Arunachal, Bengal to top pool

Chhattisgarh hockey team is participating in the 15th Hockey India Sub Junior National Championship Chennai
Rajnandgaon (Team GDNews): Chhattisgarh hockey team has performed brilliantly in the 15th Hockey India Sub Junior National Championship being held from 28 July to 8 August 2025 at Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, and has topped the Pool ‘B’ of B Division.
Chhattisgarh Hockey Association President Firoz Ansari informed that Chhattisgarh team has defeated Arunachal Pradesh 4-0 and Bengal 6-2 in the matches played so far. Earlier, the team defeated Goa 4-0 in the opening match, while it lost 1-2 in a tough match against Gujarat. A total of five teams were included in this pool – Goa, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Bengal and Chhattisgarh.
A total of 29 teams from across the country are participating in this national competition. The selectors appointed by Hockey India will select 50 players for the national training camp through this championship. Later, selected players from these will represent India’s sub-junior team and participate in international competitions to be held in the continent of Europe.
General Secretary of Chhattisgarh Hockey Association Manish Srivastava said that in the match against Arunachal Pradesh, Adarsh, Rehan, Manish Vatti and Abhishek scored one goal each, while against Bengal, Adarsh scored 4 goals and Abhishek and Aman scored one goal each.
On the basis of performance, Gulshan was selected as the ‘Best Player of the Match’ for his brilliant performance against Goa, Adarsh against Arunachal Pradesh and Abhishek against Bengal.
The Chhattisgarh hockey team is participating in this national championship with an experienced training team in which chief coach Shakeel Ahmed (Khelo India) and international hockey player Mrinal Choubey are playing the role of manager. Toran Sinha is with the team as assistant coach.

Gulshan Yadav, Adarsh Singh, Abhishek Yadav, Aman Verma, Naman Dewangan, Rehan Khan, Piyush Kumar Sahu, Liyansh Sarthi, Mohit Kashyap, Manish Vatti, Pritam Kujur, Aman Nag, Aniket Kujur, Ankit Kujur, Rehan Sheikh, Manish Moria, Himanshu Mallick and Saurya Verma.
