At least one bystander is dead. The tremendous bravery of the individual United States Secret Service agents who protected President Trump, eliminated the gunman, and possibly averted more loss of life cannot be overstated.<br>The Committee on Oversight and Accountability has initiated an investigation into today&#8217;s assassination attempt on President Trump and requests your voluntary appearance at a full Committee hearing on July 22, 2024&#8243;, says the press release from Oversight Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate &#8220;any matter&#8221; at &#8220;any time&#8221; under House Rule X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With global condemnation of the assassination attempt on former President Trump, the Representative Comer (R-KY) announced that he has initiated contact with the Secret Service and formally requested the agency&#8217;s director to testify in a hearing regarding the investigation into what authorities are treating as an attempt on the life of the former president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have already reached out to the Secret Service for a briefing and am also calling on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to testify before a hearing. The Oversight Committee will be extending a formal invitation shortly,\u201d Comer stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donald Trump, aged 78, was delivering a speech at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when multiple gunshots rang out shortly after 6 pm ET. The former president, who was observed with blood from his right ear, later claimed, \u201cI felt the bullet tear through my skin\u201d and that he \u201cwas shot with a bullet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspected shooter, as yet unidentified, was \u201cneutralized by Secret Service,\u201d according to the agency. One attendee at the rally has been reported dead and two other spectators sustained serious injuries, according to Secret Service reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy thoughts and prayers are with President Trump and the victims of the incident at today\u2019s rally in Pennsylvania.
